VISIT TO SAN FRANCISCO
I
t was September 1992. I was meeting my wife, Janet, in San Francisco to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.We came from different directions; me from Denver, she from Nashville.
As the 747 crawled northward over the bay, I was briefly reminded of the San Francisco of my dreams: Candlestick Park, the Golden Gate Bridge, Nob Hill, cable cars, beatniks, Fisherman's Wharf and Joe DiMaggio, tons of hills, chase scenes from movies, Eric Hoffer's longshoreman loading and unloading heavy barges, the television show The Streets of San Francisco, the Birdman of Alcatrez, Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Kenneth Rexroth, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, and the 1989 earthquake--doomed World Series. This is a really nice travel book for beginners to the city of Boston. Nicely done. Includes needed maps, historical information, needed phone number, transportation tips, a Boston Calendar of Events, and Temporary Lodging helps for the first time visitor. Good addition to a travelers library.
Evelyn Hannon has done it again. An excellent guide for traveling to Holland. "Netherland Notes by women for women." Well designed. An eye catcher. Worth reading and saving.
This is a terrific list of travelogues. Bookmark it!
